When publishing my first book, it seemed to me that getting an award was about as easy as winning the lottery. If you are a new author, not on the New York Times® Best Sellers list, or didn’t make it into a large publishing house, then you may find it difficult to have your book looked at by most places.
So what about “us” underdogs who have actually written a good story? Don’t worry, all is not lost. Books For Youth will be giving out an annual award to the author whose book is deemed the most worthy.
Prestigious? Perhaps not. Helpful for promoting and selling your book? Absolutely.
Your Book:
- Must fit into the category of speculative fiction.
- Must be targeted to (and appropriate for) Kids and Teens.
- Can either be traditionally or self published.
- Can be considered “Christian” or “Secular”.
Submission Guidelines:
- Acceptable formats are: unabridged audio or printed paperback.
Audio Book: send download link or contact for mailing address *
Printed Book: contact for mailing address *
Note: unless you want to buy us a Kindle 2.0, we are not accepting digital submissions of story text at this time. - Provide your full name (as appears on the book), book title, summary of the story, and link to where it can be purchased online.
* Send an E-Mail to info<at>booksforyouth<dot>com (be sure to replace <at> with @ and <dot> with . ) and you will receive a reply informing you of the snail-mail address to send your book to.
What to Expect:
- Your book will be thoroughly read to determine its chances of winning.
- A review will be written of your book, and posted on this blog, even if it does not win. Keep in mind that this site gives honest reviews and if the quality and writing of your book is poor, then a review will mention as such. If the quality of the book is horrible, then for your sake, no review will be given.
- Any item you send will not be returned to you, however it may be offered up for giveaways on a future posting.
- There are no fees for entering, just as there are no cash winnings. You will be given a vector and raster version of our Award logo, which you can include on the cover of your book and/or distribute electronically, just so long as it accompanies your book (in other words, you can’t redistribute it for someone else to use).
- The award will be announced either towards the end of the year or beginning of 2010. It all depends on how many entries we receive.
- The submission deadline will be announced at a later time.
